Pito's Heart

Pito (pronounced Peetoe) was the greatest dog ever to set foot on the Elder’s property. His heart was strong. His heart was loyal. His heart was filled with love. You could see it all just by looking into his bright, brown eyes. He was a beautiful dog with a brilliant black coat the shined like a diamond in the afternoon sun. Pito was the very picture of a pure bred canine and he was as healthy as an athlete. He drew praise every day from passersby on the street that he owned … or at least that he claimed as his own. He guarded it with love and compassion and no one seemed to mind when he barked out his declaration of guardianship. But this story could never have been told if a little lost puppy would not have had a powerful will to survive and an amazing sense of timing.
