The book then concentrates on the first forty years of the twentieth century, using letters written by Joe Faulkner during the first world war, diaries written by Norma Ball during the roaring twenties, and oral history during the great depression and dust bowl days in the southwest.

Dr. J. Alan Adams is the co-author of three engineering textbooks. He holds the title of Professor Emeritus of Engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy.
